Quick answer
The best AI video generator depends on the job, because “AI video generator” means three different kinds of tool. Pick the kind first, then the product.
- Cinematic clips from a text prompt or an image: Runway, Pika, Luma and Kling.
- A presenter who speaks your script: HeyGen and Synthesia.
- A finished video built from a script and stock footage: invideo, Pictory and Fliki.
CapCut sits across the first and third groups: it is an editor that also offers AI generation with a model called Seedance 2.0 Mini on its Pro plan.
How we put this guide together
Prices, plan names and limits below were read from each vendor’s official pricing page on November 1, 2026. We did not test these tools hands-on for this guide, so we describe what each vendor states, not how the output looks. Vendors change prices often, so use the pricing links to confirm before you pay.
Best AI video generator: the three types
1. Generative clip tools (prompt or image in, short clip out)
These create new footage that never existed. Clips are short, and you pay in credits.
| Tool | Free plan | Paid plans (monthly price, annual-billing price in brackets) | What the page says |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runway | 125 one-time credits | Standard $15 ($12), Pro $35 ($28), Max $95 ($76) | Standard: 625 credits a month, no watermarks, 4K upscaling |
| Pika | Credit packs only, no commercial license | Starter $10 ($8), Creator $35 ($28), Fancy $95 ($76) | Starter: 900 credits a month. Creator: 3,150 credits and a commercial license |
| Luma | None shown | Plus $30 ($25), Pro $90 ($75), Ultra $300 ($250) | Plus: 10,000 credits and commercial use |
| Kling | See official site | See official site | We could not read consumer pricing |
2. Avatar and presenter tools (script in, talking person out)
Best for explainers, training, sales videos and anything where a person speaks to the camera.
| Tool | Free plan | Paid plans | What the page says |
|---|---|---|---|
| HeyGen | 3 videos a month, watermarked | Creator $29 ($24 annual), Pro $49, Business $149 plus $20 per extra seat | Compare in our HeyGen review |
| Synthesia | 500 credits a month | Starter $19 (first month $9), Pro $89 (first month $49) | Compare in Synthesia vs HeyGen |
3. Script-to-video tools (text in, edited video out)
These assemble a video from a script, stock media and a voice. They are closer to an automated editor than a generator.
| Tool | Free plan | Paid plans | What the page says |
|---|---|---|---|
| invideo | None shown | Basic, Pro and Ultra from $4 to $40 per seat a month, billed annually | The page shows struck-through higher prices, so check what you pay at checkout |
| Pictory | 14-day free trial | Starter $25 (annual) or $29 (monthly), Professional $35 or $59 | Trial limits: 3 videos, 720p, watermark |
| Fliki | Free plan with watermark | Standard and Premium, prices not shown on the page we read | Standard: 180 credits and 1080p |
Which one should you choose?
- You want striking b-roll or short cinematic scenes: start with Runway, Pika or Luma and compare how many credits each clip costs on your plan. Read our guide to the best image-to-video AI tools if you want to animate a still image.
- You want a person explaining something on camera: HeyGen or Synthesia. If you are unsure, read HeyGen alternatives.
- You want a quick faceless video from a script: invideo, Pictory or Fliki.
- You want to edit what you already shot: you probably need an editor, not a generator. See the best AI video editors.
- You need a voiceover: see the best AI voice generators.
What to check before you pay
- Credits, not months. Compare how many clips a plan actually produces, not just its monthly price.
- Watermarks and resolution. Free plans often add a watermark or cap resolution. Runway lists no watermarks on Standard.
- Commercial rights. Pika’s Free plan has no commercial license, while its Creator plan does.
- First-month discounts. Synthesia and some others discount the first month, so the second month costs more.
- Annual billing. Annual prices are lower per month but need a bigger upfront payment.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best AI video generator?
There is no single best one, because 'AI video generator' covers three different jobs. For cinematic clips from a prompt or image, look at Runway, Pika or Luma. For a presenter who speaks your script, look at HeyGen or Synthesia. For a finished video built from a script and stock footage, look at invideo, Pictory or Fliki.
Is there a free AI video generator?
Several offer a free tier with limits. Runway gives 125 one-time credits, HeyGen gives 3 watermarked videos a month, and Synthesia gives 500 credits a month. Luma and invideo showed no free plan on their pricing pages when we checked.
Why do AI video generators charge in credits?
Generating video is expensive, so most tools sell a monthly pool of credits and each clip uses some of them. Longer clips, higher quality and newer models use more credits, so the price per clip changes with how you use the tool.
Can I use AI-generated videos commercially?
It depends on the plan. Pika lists a commercial license on its Creator plan and says its Free plan has none. Luma lists commercial use on its paid plans. Always read the license on the plan you choose.
